American Defector Joe Dresnok on 60 Minutes

with one comment

Here’s a two-part video on the life of Joe Dresnok, a former Private in the US army who fled to Pyongyang in the 1960s. Facinating stuff. Dresnok claims to have adapted to life north of the DMZ and even became a movie star. Check it out.

  1. Its interesting how jaded the interviewer is being. I find it difficult to watch him despairingly attempt to take a higher path, while seeming not to recognize that his own country could easily be accused of any one of the attrocities hinted at in the videos. Its almost as if he is attempting to show Korea as one cohesive entity, and at the same time, getting upset when North Koreans view America as the same.

Interesting article and perspective…was not expecting the anger and hostility between the two GI’s at the end…but I think one can get comfortable being different (definitely happens to 왜국’s here)…and that can be exploitable.

All in all Joe, interesting website (the drive through Pyongyang is boring as shit). Good work!
