State Has Harsh Words For Lefkowitz
Follow up to: Are the Neo Cons Rearing Their Ugly Heads Again?
The US State department has publicly disavowed North Korean Human Rights envoy Jay Lefkowitz for comments he made the other day to a conservative think tank. Said State Department Spokesperson Sean McCormak (via VOA):
“He [Lefkowitz] is not, however, somebody who speaks authoritatively about the six-party talks. His comments certainly don’t represent the views of the administration. We believe that the six-party talks provide a forum, a mechanism and an opportunity to realize the goal of a denuclearized Korean peninsula.”
The spokesperson was silent as to whether or not the envoy faced a stern talking-to from Secretary of State Condelezza Rice.
In other news, the North called a recent deployment of US fighter jets “reckless.”
“Such reckless moves for military confrontation clearly show who is scuttling the peaceful solution to the nuclear issue of the Korean Peninsula and sparking off tension and war,”
said a spokesperson for the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland
