General Bell: New Doksa Missile is a Threat

leave a comment »

The North recently unveiled its new short-range surface-to-surface KN-02 Doksa (독사, 毒蛇, “Venomous Snake”) missile during a military parade last year. The Doksa can be launched from a mobile launcher with less than five minutes preparation and is specifically designed to target South Korea. It is said to be capable of carrying chemical weapon payloads. The Korea Herald (2/11/08) sites an unnamed source:

“As we understood it, the name [of the missile] was intended to reflect what the U.S. saw as the potential threat from the new North Korean missiles”

In the past, the US named North Korean missiles for the site of the missile’s maiden launch.
