Former director at the Los Alamos National Laboratory and Stanford professor Siegfried Hecker is very optimisitic about North Korea’s willingness to denuclearize. Hecker, along with former State Department official Joel Wit travelled to the Yongbyun facility in an unofficial capacity, and both couldn’t stop gushing about the North’s cooperative attitude, claiming the were allowed “remarkable access.” LA Times reports that Hecker

said he observed an exceptional working relationship between North Korean technicians and U.S. teams supervising the dismantling of a nuclear reactor, a factory to make nuclear fuel rods and a reprocessing plant, which was used to make weapons-grade plutonium.

 Wit concurred, saying:

“My feeling coming away from this visit is that the level of cooperation is good, better than I’ve seen in the 10 years I’ve been visiting the facility”
